Maya's Biography

Maya Le Rоux - Obradović is a Swiss-Serbian composer and guitarist, currently focusing on promoting and interpreting her own works. Born in Serbia, Le Roux-Obradović was raised in Geneva, which she left for Belgrade in 2010. Her music language, tonal and romantic, is greatly influenced by Balkan folklore. For Maya, composing is not escape from, but rather a transformation of lived experience though another language. In 2012, Maya was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.

Education
Maya graduated with honors from the Conservatory of Geneva (Conservatoire de Gèneve), and has obtained a Degree in Interpretation (Diplôme Supérieur d’Exécution) from the Ecole Normale de Paris having studied with famous guitarist Alberto Ponce.

She also studied at the Haute Ecole de Musique of Lausanne with the guitarist Dagoberto Linhares, with whom she would go on, ten years later, to form a guitar trio. For twenty-one years, Maya collaborated with the conductor and composer Aleksandar Vujić and the Belgrade Sinfonietta, which introduced her to the world of orchestration.

Composer
Maya Le Roux-Obradović has composed a number of pieces for a variety of ensembles, including:

• La Ballade de la Vallée Magique and Concerto Latino, both concertos for guitar and string orchestra
• Le Double Concerto Latino, for two guitars, string orchestra and percussion
• Concerto Sud-Atlantique, for guitar and symphony orchestra
• Music for Cocoa, a musical
• Soundtrack to the children book with music, Nick et l’Empereur de Chine
• Soundtrack for the film Un été en Antarctique
• Little Suite for a Prince, for solo guitar – inspired by Saint-Exupéry’s famous story, it was the basis for a theatrical piece performed in four languages across five countries
• Chanson sans Paroles; Bazar des Quatre Vents; and Dictons et Superstititons, initially written for soprano, guitar and string quintet, it was recorded by the soprano Tanja Andrijić. Following growing interest, Maya has produced a number of arrangements for various ensembles of these pieces
• Suspendu, for guitar and string trio or violin and piano
• Moja Noći (O, My Night), for soprano, mezzo, piano and cello
• Comme dans un Conte, for string orchestra
• Locco, for two guitars (in homage to Aleksandar Vujić)
• Jano Blues, for two guitars and string orchestra (dedicated to Johan Smith and Vojin Kocić)
• Dositej Obradović for mixed choir and symphonic orchestra. (commissioned for the occasion of Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture, 2021)

A CD of her compositions, “Symphony and Guitar” received critical praise in the United States, with pieces played across forty-two states.
One evening of Belgrade’s 24th Guitar Art Festival in 2023 was dedicated to Le Roux-Obradović’s music, as was one evening in Montenegro in 2024. The Belgrade orchestra, “Binički” dedicated an evening to her music in 2024, as part of a program of Serbian composers.

Guitarist
As a soloist, Maya Le Roux-Obradović has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Sinfonietta of Belgrade, as well as the Orchestra of the Opera Bastille de Paris and the Galician Youth Orchestra in Spain. She was part of a guitar trio with Dagoberto Linhares and Raymond Migy, which has given concerts in Egypt, Portugal, France and Morocco. And she is part of a guitar duo with Christophe Leu.
As a performer, she has recorded 8 CDs.

“Maya Le Roux” Foundation
Maya places great importance on bringing together talented youth and important music institutions, as well as on promoting musical excellence among young people. Since 2020, Maya has produced the annual event, Strings & Stars in Serbia, to promote an institution of national importance, The School for Musical Talents (Ćuprija, Serbia). The event features two concerts given by the students of the school with an international soloist.
Further, as composer, Maya collaborates with the School for Musical Talents orchestra to draw budding musicians from across the entire Balkans.
