Maya Le Roux, a Swiss guitarist and composer of Serbian origin has lived in Geneva since the age of 5.
A graduate of the Conservatoire supérieur de Genève, she continued her studies at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris under Albert Ponce and obtained a higher diploma in performance. Her studies in musical interpretation were perfected under Dagoberto Linhares, Professor at the Conservatoire de Lausanne.

Her education was rounded off by a science diploma as well as by courses in Philosophy and Musicology at the University of Geneva. As soon as her studies ended, she began work at Radio Suisse Romande. She went on to direct the station’s classical music program “Matin Pluriel” (Espace 2) which provided her with the ideal base from which to explore the contemporary music scene.

She has had the pleasure of performing as a soloist with orchestras such as:
- The London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Vivaldi’s concerto for mandolin)
- The Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Marc Piollet (Concierto Andaluz for 4 guitars and orchestra by Joaquin Rodrigo with Dagoberto Linhares , Raymond Migy and Christophe Leu)
- The “Belgrade Symphonietta” Orchestra (long-time working relationship with its leader Aleksandar Vujic, first time performances of the concerto Ballade de la Vallée magique by Maya Le Roux and of Concertino by Aleksandar Vujic.  
Also on the repertoire: Vivaldi concertos for mandolin, two mandolins and lute.
- The youth Orchestra of Galicia (Concierto Andaluz by Joaquin Rodrigo)
- The “Euro Méditerranée” Orchestra at Paris’ Opéra Comique conducted by Yannis Pouspourikas (Ballade de la Vallée magique)
Maya Le Roux has performed as a guitarist for several operas at the Grand Théatre de Genève, as well as for the “Barber of Seville” at the Bastille Opera in Paris.
Guitar solo for the Los Angeles produced film “Ocean Oasis” with music by Alan Reeves.

GUITAR DUOS


Maya Le Roux performs regularly in a guitar duo with Chistophe Leu (Chistophe Leu and Les Productions d'OZ) with whom she has recorded 4 CD’s (see discography) all well received by the press (press reviews)
The Duo has been performing together for some twenty years and has an original repertoire including:
- Arrangements of certain jazz (a musical universe to which he also belongs) classics by Christophe Leu which allow for the prerequisite improvisation time
- Original works composed by the duettists
- Transcriptions for guitar by Maya Le Roux
The complicity shared by the two guitarists as well as the variety of their repertoire has endowed them with a special character much appreciated by the public.

COMPOSER
As a composer, Maya Le Roux expresses herself in tones ranging from romanticism to music reflecting the colourful folklore of the Balkans that were the setting of her early childhood.
Her concerto Ballade de la Vallée magique has been aired for over ten years in some twenty different countries and has had the privilege of being included in the music of George Lautner’s film «Le Front de l’absurde»
Cocoa a musical comedy recorded by the Radio Belgrade Symphony Orchestra was Serbia’s entry at the Bologna Festival
In collaboration with writer Thérèse Lauriol, Le Roux has written 9 songs for the children’s story Nick et l’Empereur de Chine published by Albin Michel Jeunesse and narrated by actor Jean Rochefort.
Maya Le Roux is presently working on the music for a documentary « Un été en Antartique » directed by Yvon Le Gars. Her new concerto for guitar, Concerto Latino has also been written for Quintet.  It is to be performed by the winners of the Chamonix International Contest whose theme this year is the guitar.

To the inevitable question: « what about the future of classical music? », her answer is: « Today, the fusion, cross-fertilization, the blending of civilizations, is also reflected in musical expression. I predict a decompartmentalisation of classical music due to the different ethnic tendencies from which it draws inspiration... »

2007 Recording of a CD with the guitar trio entitled Fandangos y Zarzuelas.
Trio concert in Geneva with Dagoberto Linhares and Raymond Migy.
2006 Concert in Geneva with two guitar quintets composed by Maya Le Roux Quintetto Latino and Ballade de la Vallée Magique. The string quartet was composed by musicians from the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
Work on the guitar trio with Dagoberto Linhares and Raymond Migy. Musical transcription of two “zarzuelas” of Jerónimo Jiménez and of the Carmen suite of Bizet from orchestral score to the guitar trio.
Concerts in the South of France of Spanish repertory with the guitar trio.
Production and rewriting work of the Nick et l’Empereur de Chine play.
The Concerto Latino was chosen as an obligatory piece of music for the Concours de Musique of Chamonix in France, which received guitar for the first time. The concerto was performed by the three prize winners in its redaction for quintet with guitar.
Composition of the music of the documentary movie Un été en Antarctique.
New theatrical edition of Nick et l’Empereur de Chine, 20 productions in Geneva. The production, the theatrical adaptation and the use of black theatre were given by Maya Le Roux.
The movie Un été en Antarctique was chosen for the opening of the Paris Science Festival at the Paris Natural History Museum and programmed for two months at the Cité des Sciences de la Villette in Paris. The movie was sold to many European TV channels.

Performed guitar solo for the music composed by Alan Reeves for the film Orion Oasis produced in Los Angeles.
Soloist with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg for the Orientalist section of the Salzburg Festival inaugural celebrations. This concert was recorded by Austrian Radio and broadcast to some thirty countries.
